iGuard ® is a surface mounted device that incorporates a biometric finger scanner, contactless smart card, and pin pad all in one unit. It works with a standard electronic strike and 12 volt power supply. It can work as a stand-alone appliance or be combined with multiple units to form a system. iGuard ® is Web based! It has both embedded software and a Web server so there is no additional software to purchase and install. The system administrator simply accesses it using ANY Web browser on ANY operating system such as Windows or Macintosh, and has instant access to all doors within the system; anywhere in the world !

Once installed, the user simply goes to any standard Web browser, types in the IP address for a single iGuard ® unit, and the software automatically opens displaying all of the iGuards® within the system. What is a smart card ?
A smart card looks very much like a typical credit card but what makes it smart is the small microprocessor chip embedded in the card. The chip is a powerful minicomputer that can be programmed in different ways. Smart cards allow data and applications to be securely stored and accessed on the chip and enable secure data exchange. Smart card technology provides high levels of security and privacy protection, making it ideal for handling sensitive information such as identity and access rights information. Fingerprint templates can be deleted from the iGuard ® unit and be stored on the contactless smart card.
How do smart cards work ?
A smart card has a plastic card body, with a chip embedded in the plastic and a contact plate on the surface of the card. TheiGuard ® Mifare® RF-enabled smart cards allow the smart card to communicate with the iGuard ® reader through a contactless RF interface. The card is held in close proximity to the iGuard ® reader and then transmits commands and data without any contact.
All user privileges can be stored on the smart card and transmitted to the iGuard ® unit at remote locations.
Why have both fingerprint ID and smart card in the same device?
Some laws and corporate policies require that fingerprint is not stored in a permanent database. iGuard ® technology allows the fingerprint to be captured on the iGuard unit then transferred to the smart card and erased from the iGuard (and infinate) database. This gives the individual using the system total privacy. When attempting to authenticate at an iGuard ® access point, the person presents the smart card to the iGuard ® reader and the person then must place their finger on the iGuard ® unit for a one-to-one match. iGuard ® is unique in this feature and the leading supplier to schools and universities; worldwide. iGuard ® is used exclusively by the Goddard School for student/parent personal protection requirements.
